Gimli Gazette, Issue 1

Gimli Gazette, Issue 1

Welcome readers to my new blog!  It is my joy to give you regular “behind-the-scenes” looks at life here at Mercy Spring Ranch.

I am a Haflinger gelding.  Sometimes folks call me a Haffie, which then gets them confused with a short Halfling from the Lord of the Rings (sharing a name with a dwarf from that same series also does not help).  Rest assured that I am fully grown for the Haflinger breed of horse.

My days are quite productive.  I usually awaken the neighborhood before dawn by banging on my feeder to request my breakfast.  I maintain a busy schedule of exercise, eating, and playing with my stable mates (Ladyhawke and Connor).

We spend the night in our paddocks (living quarters), and most days we are turned out in the pasture or arena (when we are not playing with the kiddos in sessions).  When I get bored, I do admit to getting into a little bit of mischief.  I will share some stories of my adventures in future postings.

I am looking forward to the spring sessions starting soon.  I enjoy being groomed by the staff and children.  Since I am the easiest horse to ride, the younger children are especially drawn to me (as well as for my good looks and charming personality).

Mo and John take very good care of me.  They feed me the best food available, and make sure that my paddocks are clean.  As human beings go, they are two of the best!  I must have trained them well over the years.

And speaking of years, I am about to turn seventeen.  That is in human years.  In horse years, that would make me 53 of your human years.  I should probably post a link for my personal birthday gift registry at the Tack Room!

Well, that does it for now.  I see a patch of grass near the round pen that is calling out to me.  Next time I will look at some of the specific activities that go on at Mercy Spring Ranch, and answer any questions which you may have for me.  You will soon discover what a blessing the ranch is to the families that come here.

Happy Trails,

Gimli
