Gimli News Flash, Number Twenty

Gimli News Flash, Number Twenty

Hello my friends, and welcome to a moment of personal reflection from your faithful correspondent, Gimli Black.

As I was hanging out in my paddock today, I overheard a couple of volunteers talking.  They were discussing one of my recent videos on Instagram from the Mercy Spring Ranch page.  One of the women commented that I did not seem to be my usual, cheerful self.  I appeared to be distracted and not as focused on my exquisite presentation as I usually am.

This ranch helper was very observant.  I have been off my game lately.  Regular readers of this blog (that is, most of the population of the planet with Internet access) will know that I continue to struggle with the recent passing of my dear horse friend Connor.  I grieve him continually, and sometimes I get overwhelmed with the loss of my paddock neighbor.

This realization came crashing home to me last week during a hot day while I was being painted by the children.  One of the mini horses joined in the painting; and for a brief moment, it felt like I had a friend again.  The moment passed quickly, and soon loneliness was again my portion.

Miss Mo has posted on Facebook about the need on the ranch for another child-safe horse to minister to the children.  It could even be a loan horse for a few months, where the ranch would pick up the feed bill while it stays on the ranch.  If you have such a horse (or know someone who does), please message the ranch on Facebook or call (209) 691-6054.

I know that another horse for a few months won’t take the place of Connor, but it would be a blessing to the children, as well as provide me with a friend while I work through the pain of missing Connor.  Besides, what greater gift can you give to such a horse than for it to become a neighbor and friend to the one and only Gimli Black!  Such joy is only a phone call away!!!

Happy Trails,

Gimli  July 14, 2025
