Horses are one of the most abused and neglected domesticated animals in our culture. It should be no surprise that horses are expensive to care for, but whether through ignorance or cruelty, many horse owners find themselves in over their heads and sadly make choices that often lead to unimaginable suffering for these amazing creatures. Equine rescues and sanctuaries often find themselves overwhelmed and under-funded to meet the influx of horses in crisis. Local animal control agencies are rarely equipped to house or rehabilitate the animals that need to be seized. While it is a hard reality, some of these animals have lost any quality of life and need to be humanely euthanized. These are the heartbreaking realities of rescue.
Here at Mercy Spring Ranch, we know we cannot save them all, but the Lord in His great mercy, makes a way for us to rescue some and take part in healing, training, and restoring their trust. It is always our goal to see each horse we rescue become a part of our session program or be adopted into a home where they can live safe and cared for. Just as God has rescued, healed, and adopted us, the part a broken child can play in helping heal a broken horse is such a powerful way to help that child see God’s great love for them.
